I picked up my car from Dollar Rent A Car and left the lot. When I got to where I was going (about an hour away), I had a hard time getting the key out of the ignition.

I called it in, and turns out the key was bent. They charged me a whopping amount of money for it (almost half the price of the week's rental), saying that it was obviously my fault. All I did was put the key in the ignition! Their failure to notice this on the previous return of the car now was coming out of my pocket.

Their customer service department was not very friendly (or intelligent, I might add), nor was any of their staff I interacted with. I will never rent from this company again.

You should probably dispute the charge for the key with your credit card people and carry it as far as you can with them and also contact corporate for Dollar Rent A Car with your complaint. I wouldn't let them get away with this if I could help it. Good luck
